Windward is an action-filled multiplayer sandbox game that puts you in control of a ship sailing the high seas of a large procedurally-generated world. Designed from the start to be a fully procedural co-op game, Windward can be played by yourself, but it truly comes alive when playing with friends. Start by generating a procedural world that will be unique to you, design your own custom faction then sail forward fighting pirates, trading with towns, doing quests or simply exploring -- it's up to you how you want to play.

In Decembre 2021 the oldest (!) Windward sandbox available has

relocated to the latest Raspberry Pi 4B single board computer (SBC).

Very few people know that the development on Windward started as sort of a joke. I remember walking up to the legendary game designer Sid Meier at the 2012 Game Developer’s Conference after one of his talks that covered game developers copying other game developers and asked him half in jest if he’d mind if I did something similar and created a game inspired by his “Pirates!” game. Naturally Sid being the cool guy that he is just said “sure, go for it!”
